The dunes are unusual in that they lie at right angles to the coast and gradually move northwards until they become consolidated, first by marram grass and eventually by heather and other heath plants. The view shows the leading edge of the latest mobile dune in the series.</description>

Today they are eaten mainly by the eider ducks resident in the area but in the past they were harvested in large numbers for bait for long line fishermen. This stone structure is all that remains of a bothy that was used by the mussel harvesters. It was still roofed and in in use in the early 1970s.</description>

Initially leg and luggage room was restricted and the door seals let in drafts but this was improved after new units were introduced.</description>

When squashed, they release a gelatinous substance which in wet weather causes the pavement to become very slippery. The photo shows the steep incline, which can cause problems for the unwary pedestrian hurrying down the hill along the pavement under the tree.

Yews can live for many centuries. Perhaps it was this very tree whose berries inspired the naming of the lane at an unknown date.</description>
