More about me

A geographer and cartographer by training. I have always been a keen cyclist and a photographer of the snapshotting variety. Recently retired from my last job of Chief Surveyor for Sustrans for over ten years. Geographing provides the perfect motivation for continuing to travel widely and to get out on my bike to explore new areas. As so much of the country accessible by bike is now coloured red, I have recently taken to furthering my geograph activities on foot in the more remote corners of County Durham. Favourite destinations are County Durham, the North Pennines, Northumberland and the whole of the Southern Uplands of Scotland.

If you really want to know what I look like, the only Geograph in which I actually appear is reproduced below, along with one of my wife who tolerates my geograph-ing with a certain detached amusement.
