Dudley No 1 Canal

Delph Locks (8 locks)

A flight of eight locks raises the level by about 100ft from the Stourbridge Canal. The original nine lock flight was built by Thomas Dadford(Senior) in 1779. Problems with mining subsidence and difficulty of operation led to their replacement by a new flight in 1855. The top and bottom locks were retained and a new flight constructed with one less lock on a straighter alignment.
