The ten locks are formed in two five lock staircases raising the canal level by 75 feet. A boat lift was built nearby in 1898 to bypass the locks but proved short-lived due to running costs.

Watford Locks (7 locks)
This flight of seven locks includes a staircase of four. The water level is raised by 52 feet 6 inches, about sixteen metres. The lock keeper supervises passage through the flight during specified hours in the day. He must be contacted before entering the flight.
