THE COMMUNITY ORCHARD



Twenty native fruit trees were planted on 17th March 2012 to start the Community Orchard and more trees were planned to follow. The planting was carried out by members of the Lickey Hills Society, the Park Rangers and other volunteers.SO9975 : The New Community Orchard Lickey Hills by Roy Hughes

TRANQUIL HOUSE on Old Birmingham RoadSO9874 : Tranquil House Old Birmingham Road Lickey by Roy Hughes was the childhood home home of the TV presewnter JEREMY PAXMAN He attended the Lickey Hills Prep School on Rose Hill.

The school was later taken over by the Hillscourt Hotel and Conference Centre.

LOCAL FACT - The Lickey Hills form part of the main English Watershed - This runs across the brow of Old Birmingham Road by the Trinity Centre Parish Hall. Rain falling to the north of this line, on the Birmingham side, eventually finds it's way via streams and rivers to the North Sea. A few feet to the other side of this line, on the Bromsgrove side, rain reaches the Atlantic Ocean at the Severn Estuary.

LISA CLAYTON, later Viscountess Cobham, was the first British woman to sail single-handed and non-stop around the world. She set out in September 1994 and returned on 29th June 1995 after 285 days at sea. Her yacht was "The Spirit of Birmingham"

There is now a Christmas Tree plantation off Old Birmingham Road on Firs Farm. The new owners have planted 1000 saplings. They should be ready to start harvesting in 2030
