Belfast Rapid Transit - EWAY to Dundonald
Contents
This is a collection of photographs which attempts to show the route of the proposed bus-based east Belfast rapid transit system before, during and after construction, produced as a matter of neutral historical record.
I have no connection with the Department for Regional Development, Translink, residents’ association, environmental group or any other body which might campaign for or against the scheme. It does not discuss the costs, advantages and disadvantages of the many different schemes.
This link is to the official website Link and this one to an unofficial one Link.
I hope to update this collection fairly frequently as time, circumstances and developments permit.

Basic scheme
There are three proposed schemes. One, serving west Belfast, from the city centre to Poleglass (WWAY). A second (CITI) from the city centre to the Titanic Quarter and this one, from the city centre to Dundonald (EWAY). The vehicles will be buses, longer and wider than those currently in use. It appears that the number of stops will be reduced, that smart cards will be encouraged and that tickets must be bought from machines at the stops.
Proposed route described
From close to the City Hall, via Howard Street, Fisherwick Place, Wellington Place, Chichester Street, Victoria Street, Queen’s/Custom House Square, Oxford Street, the Albert Bridge, Albertbridge Road, Holywood Arches, Upper Newtownards Road, the Ulster Hospital to a park and ride terminus at the Dunlady Road, Dundonald. Most of this is covered by the present 4A and 4B Metro buses.
