Introduction

Transport For Wales Class 197, No. 197110 Runcorn East Station

Currently operated by Transport for Wales, Class 197 is a class of diesel multiple unit passenger train built by CAF, based on its Civity platform. There will be 51 two-car units (designated 197/0) and 26 three-car units (designated 197/0).
Unlike Class 195 Civity units, the TfW-ordered DMUs have gangway connections at each end allowing passengers and crew to move freely between coupled units.
Class 197 was intended to replace Class 158 and Class 175 trains on various regional and regional express routes that form part of the Wales & Borders rail franchise and are also expected to replace Class 150 and 153 units on the Conwy Valley line.
