Annual article publication

We now turn to creating the content of AG annual gallery article from the data in the article_input worksheet. Create a new article as described in the documentation on Geograph for creating a new article.

There are approximately 2500 images to be displayed so the next stage is to split the data into a number of pages, bearing in mind that there is a recommended limit of only 100 images per page with an absolute limit of 200. Decide on where to put the page boundaries bearing in mind these constraints.

Enter editing mode in the article creation procedure. Insert page boundaries as described in the documentation for creating articles.

From the article_input worksheet copy blocks of cells pertaining to your chosen page limits. There are three precautions to be taken at this point. To ensure correct formatting in the article, your selection for copying must be a block of cells not an array of rows; furthermore your selection must include the blank line above the first user name for the current page; lastly you should also take care that your selection extends sufficiently far to the right as to include all the images for the most prolific contributor on that page. The copied data should now be pasted into the article between the appropriate top and bottom boundaries of that page.

Repeat for all the pages of data. Press save changes to check on the final presentation of the article.

When complete the new article should be linked from the parent article (PA). The PA is available for collaborative editing.

Leaderboard publication

Three leaderboards are generated by the project:

annual leaderboard
alltime leaderboard
alltime rate leaderboard

You may wish to change the layout of each leaderboard by re-arranging the worksheet in Excel to make it more compact on the page (see examples from previous years). Each leaderboard should be printed out to .pdf format and displayed in your browser. From the screen take a screen capture and save in GIF format. The GIF file should be uploaded to Geograph Media from which code will be generated to include in the article body. For further information about working with Geograph Media, see the documentation under Collections on the Geograph front page.

The annual leaderboard is generated by the code in module 1 (the AGF part of the project). The .pdf version of the annual_leaderboard should be linked from the Leaderboard page at the end of the relevant annual gallery (AG).

The alltime leaderboard and the alltime rate leaderboard are generated by the code in module 2 (ATL part of the project) and should be saved as described below under Updating the parent article.
