On a sunny Saturday afternoon at the end of the summer holiday season there is still regular traffic of boats along the canal - although the rate at which boats pass here is throttled by the Caen Hill Flight of locks which starts a one and a half kilometres to the east.
At the end of the straight stretch of canal and just visible in the image are the moorings at Lower Foxhanger's.

Seen from the west. The bridge carries a minor metalled lane between the villages of Seend and Sells Green, but there is an alternative route, only slightly longer, using the A361 and the A365.

An overnight break here after descending the 29 locks at Devizes.
Will be on our winter moorings by tonight.

Having descended from higher ground through the Caen Hill locks to the east, the Kennet and Avon Canal here travels through mostly flat farmland. The hedgerows bounding the canal limit and the flat ground itself limit the views that can be had from the canal. Better views of the countryside can be had, as here, by taking one of the several footpaths up towards Seend.
In the centre of the image is the swing bridge shown in ST9461 : Sells Green Swing Bridge looking to the east.

As seen from the west in 1977. This (then) somewhat rickety swing bridge carries a long bridleway extending from Seend all the way to Melksham.

There are two of these unusual canalside ponds here, both linked to the canal, but not related to water supply. There is a heron on the far bank.
