SECTION ONE

Glenrothes

Not a popular access point for the hills of the regional park but at the Pitcairn Outdoor Centre in Moidart Drive but there is a reasonably-sized car park and a path which climbs to the Purin Hill car park for an ascent of East Lomond. This route is popular with mountain bikers who aren't concerned with reaching the summit of any hill.

This is the Glenrothes headquarters of Fife Coast and Countryside Trust who are responsible for (amongst other things) Lomond Hills Regional Park. Situated in Moidart Drive it is the base for the ranger maintenance team who look after paths, signage, etc., within the park. It is also the starting point for the several miles of mainly low-level paths of Formonthills Community Woodland. There is also a path from here which ascends to Purin Hill car park NO2505 : Car park at Purin Hill for an of ascent East Lomond (Falkland Hill).

NO2603 : Is this a counter? by Bill Kasman
Placed at the entrance to the car park at the Pitcairn Centre, Glenrothes, this post is matched by an identical post on the opposite side of the track. I assume that they are infra-red counters recording the number of visitors to this area. There are similar-looking posts elsewhere in the park.
