Olympic and Paralympic Gold Post Boxes

Introduction

During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, the Royal Mail celebrated each Great Britain gold medal by painting a post box gold in the home town of each gold medal winner.

In total there were 29 Team GB Gold Medals for the Olympic Games and 34 Paralympics GB Gold Medals for the Paralympic Games, coming third in both overall.

Boxes were also painted for Irish gold medal winners of which there were three winners for the Paralympics.

The boxes were originally to be repainted in their traditional red, but the boxes will now remain gold, and a plaque put on each one.
