Pittenweem local authority recycling centre
This recycling facility in Fife is small but beautifully formed!
Pittenweem local authority recycling centre (otherwise known as 'The Tip' or 'The Dump') is more than just a place to dump rubbish. The workforce there have taken some considerable time and trouble to make a visit to the facility more like a visit to a local attraction which, indeed, it has become. People travel surprising distances not only to recycle their refuse but to admire what the staff here have created. By their own effort and expense they have landscaped part of the facility and, from items intended for disposal, have built a miniature village display.
This charming addition to a refuse disposal site is looked after by the staff with the help of a local man who devotes some of his spare time to the upkeep of the display. This has resulted in a visit to this recycling facility being rather more pleasant than most trips to a rubbish dump!
Update (March 2019): Sadly, this miniature village is no longer in existence having been removed on the instructions of the local authority.
