The dam was built in 1965-67 to regulate the flow in the River Severn. The structure is the tallest mass concrete dam in Britain, standing 236 ft (72m) high. The reservoir operated by Severn Trent Water holds up to 11,000 million gallons of water. http://www.llanidloes.com/clywedog/External link

Afon Cerist and its tributary the Afon Trannon

The Afon Cerist starts near to the Clywedog Reservoir and joins the Afon Hafren at Caersws.

The Afon Trannon rises on the top of the moors at Sarnbibog and merges with the Trawsnant at a waterfall on the edge of the forestry before dropping into the valley at Trefeglwys. Sharing the valley bottom with the Afon Cerist the rivers join near Carnedd.

Afon Carno and its tributary the Afon Cledan

The rivers rise in moorland to the north and west of Carno and flow south to join the Afon Hafren upstream of Caersws.
