Contin - beyond the Black Isle

This area to the west of the A863 has been included in this compilation, because of its proximity to the Black Isle and as it contains natural woodlands enjoyed by its neighbours. However its main woodland is the Forestry and Land Scotland Torrachilty holdings which is an enormous mostly contiguous commercial plantation. For this compilation, Torrachilty has been subdivided into segments that are self-contained for access by forestry vehicles.
First the natural woodlands
Achilty Wood
This track serves the woodland and the house near Loch a' Chlarain. In this year of a late Spring, there were only scant signs of leaves on the trees

Blackmuir Wood
A useful route passes here. Apparently I took a near identical image in the summer of 2015. NH4856 : Footpath at the side of Blackmuir Wood

Contin Island SCI Grade 1
There is a perimeter path around Contin Island and it passes through the main wood in the south of the island.

Coul Estate woodland
This avenue goes directly to Mains of Coul. There are fine trees bordering it.

Jamestown wood
Part of the Highland Council Core Path from Strathpeffer to Contin. There is a marker post near Strathpeffer but after that you need a map to avoid taking a wrong turning.

Loch Garve (North) CI Grade 3
Part of Route 315 compiled by Scotways (Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society) and published in Scottish Hill Tracks. Loch Garve in the background. In November the ford would have been too much for hiking boots alone, so we turned back rather than continued to Garve. See NH4160 : Ford and gate to north of Loch Garve for low water levels in March at the ford.

Loch na Crann
A great place to linger a while during an exploration of the tracks and minor footpaths of Contin Forest.

Rogie Falls
A fine tree, set off well by the autumn colours of early November.

Torr Achilty SCI Grade 1
Plenty of heather in the open glades.

Secondly, the segments of the Torrachilty Forest of Forestry and Land Scotland. Images to come.
