Geo-Trips :: Climbing Beinn Bhuidhe from the roadside
Glen Fyne
A walk from The head of Loch Fyne, Fri, 4 Mar 2011 by Richard Law
Beinn Bhuidhe, at 948m, isn't a particularly high Munro - it's around no 216 in the ranked list, out of 280+. However, since the nearest accessible carparking is basically at sea level where the A83 curves around the head of Loch Fyne, you have to earn every one of its 3110 feet. On this trip, we cycled up the estate road as far as the gate which attempts to prevent further riding, as seen in Richard Webb's photo at NN2216 : Gate, Glen Fyne, squeezed through, and dropped the bikes & tents just the other side of the fence, From there it's all walking up the track, as the Fyne estate positively discourages cycling any further up the Landrover-ready track... yes, I know. The route turned up the steep eastern flanks of Beinn Bhuidhe close to the old farm at Inverchorachan, from where the uphill grind begins, then levels out a bit around the 2000ft mark, followed by another steep final climb up onto the Munro with the remains of its lightning-struck trig. We went a little way NE along the ridge, but with no obvious sign of improvement in the weather, bailed off back downhill and to the tent. The following day was spent picking off the nearby Corbett of Meall an Fhudair.
