Geo-Trips :: Collecting squares in western Glasgow
Glasgow West
A walk from Garnethill, Tue, 25 Jun 2019 by Alan Murray-Rust
On the day before the Geograph AGM 2019, I took the opportunity to visit squares to the west of the City centre to photograph in gridsquares I had not previously visited - for Geograph, at least!
The trip was primarily done on foot, although a couple of bus trips, and one on the Subway provided convenient links between different areas of activity.
Having walked down to Sauchiehall Street from my hotel on Renfrew Street, I took a bus through to Hyndland Road, then walked through Partickhill to Partick interchange. Another bus trip took me through the Clyde Tunnel to Linthouse, from where I walked via the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to Cardonald Station. Another short bus ride into the centre of Govan, and then on foot past the former Govan Tram Depot (to 'replicate' a view taken 54 years earlier) to Kinning Park Subway Station. Round the inner circle to Cowcaddens to another location - the site of Buchanan Street Railway Station - which I had also photographed in 1965, before adjourning for lunch in the Station Bar on Port Dundas Road with fellow Geograph-er Anne Burgess.
On the map below, the grey line is the GPS track from this trip. Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
