Geo-Trips :: Essex by the Thames
Chadwell St Mary
A drive from Chadwell Heath, Sat, 22 Feb 2020 by David Howard
Being quite remote and out on a limb I had rarely been to the area south of the A127 towards the Thames so had a fertile patch to collect new places here. For a change once I'd got through the usual trouble on the North Circular it became nice and clear and could easily wander through Upminster and head to the river in Grays. I do not recommend anyone to enter the new town of Chafford Hundred without a comprehensive road map, as once you are in only a couple of roads get you out and the rest go in circles. There was also a closed main road to Tilbury where I was heading, and as a result found myself turning off into Chadwell St Mary as the signs were barely comprehensible there. I then headed back via the A13 to Rainham and headed along Rainham Road to the A12 at Chadwell Heath which was also new territory for me. For the time of year the weather was relatively nice and sunny.
