Geo-Trips :: A full day out on The Saddle

Glenshiel Forest

A walk from Shiel Bridge campsite, Sun, 5 May 1991 by Richard Law

For the Spring Bank Holiday week of late May 1991, the Wrekin Mountaineering Club had booked several days at the JMCS (Junior Mountaineering Club of Scotland) hut at Coruisk on Skye. But we had a day to 'kill' before we could get into the place, so we settled on a circuit of The Saddle from the campsite at Shiel Bridge. It's not a hugely long walk, roughly 10 miles in total, but starts from as close to sea level as makes no difference, which means you have to earn every single foot of the hills climbed. Doing it in a clockwise direction means you get to go up the Forcan Ridge, the most impressive feature of The Saddle. 10 miles and 5000' of up and down

On the map below, the grey line is the GPS track from this trip. Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
