Geo-Trips :: Along the A10
King's Lynn
A drive from Royston, Sun, 2 May 2021 by David Howard
This was a trip to fill a gap on my personal map from Stretham to the end of the A10 in King's Lynn. I had never been beyond Ely on it before so gave me a chance to visit new territory. It is a very easy and little used route compared to most, but the only glitch in the system is there is no reasonable way around Cambridge so you have to either find a complex way around it or plough right through the long line of suburbs, risk the jam in the centre, and add extra time to the schedule. As I went on a Sunday I avoided the congestion hazard and was also happy to go there for the photos but for those not in that position I recommend plan an alternative route in advance. The new Science Park was very impressive and had just been completed when I arrived, and for the first time (due to the absence of adequate signposts) got photos in the centre as well.
King's Lynn is a very nice suburban area, fairly well represented here now, although there is little or no access to The Wash which was disappointing, the docks are on a river and some way from the sea which has no roads anywhere in the area to reach it. There was a two mile jam going south on the bypass which made no sense as there was nothing special on the roundabout to enter or pass the town, but luckily I didn't need to go in that direction.
Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
