Without Geograph, much like my previous hobby of collecting used train tickets, I'd never visit most of the places I go to, including many like Sheffield and Leicester I had never been to at all before. The A1 offered some extra locations as it was closed in both directions, northbound at Croxton for the new A road and southbound before Peterborough to repair a damaged bridge, hence the added night pictures which added new squares and a POTY nomination.
I expected mainly from watching TV dark satanic mills and miserable council estates, and was pleasantly surprised to see wide open suburbs intertwined with parks, and far nicer than most of the other British cities I have been to. The complex tram system made it look American, although unlike the Croydon system I don't think I saw more than one the whole time I was there. Not knowing a thing about the geography I headed into the centre then turned off at the ring road to cover more suburbs. The dual carriageway off the Newark road ended up continuing so I covered even more once I realised it wasn't where I'd just been, and returned to the Newark Road to return. In Ollerton I went to McDonald's for dinner (few other places are open on Sunday evenings on A roads) and turned left out of it, covering most of the road back to Newark. Only after returning home and finding different place names discovered I'd headed on a parallel route there so split the route there and back. Had I known I'd have taken more on the road to Ollerton but that's part of the game.
Otherwise it was a very smooth journey as the A1 usually is, and plan another one in the future on a parallel route.
