Latchford Locks
These are the first set of locks on the canal after leaving the entrance locks at Eastham. There are two locks of different sizes, and this view shows the smaller, southern, lock. Both chambers had an intermediate set of gates, so the size of lock, and therefore the amount of water used, could be varied to suit the size of vessel(s) being passed through.
