Apples, Blackmoor Fruit Nurseries
Every year in mid October, Blackmoor Nurseries hold an Apple Day. There are stalls from the Hampshire Wildlife Trust, from woodcarvers and trinket-makers, but the apple, in all its many guises, takes centre stage.
Near by, visitors can taste a range of 20 or so apples and pears, but this array is for display purposes only. Some of the varieties are familiar - you'll find the popular Cox's orange pippin here - some less so. The misshapen, warty apple pretty much bang in the centre of this image is the delightfully named knobby russet, one of the rarer English apples.
