NO1223 : Millais Viewpoint i'd just read a chapter on landscape and human geography and i thought it illustrated the point really nicely:
"the cultural meanings of landscape are not universal but tied to particular societies and groups within them......these meanings are not simply an extra dimension that is less important than its concrete forms they are inseparable from it.....conflicts over what landscapes mean......are part of complex processes through which individuals and groups define themselves, claim and challenge political authority"
