The locomotive was built in the Swindon railway works and was completed in 1960. The plaque on the smoke deflector reads

'No. 92220 built at Swindon
March 1960

The last steam locomotive for British Railways
Named at Swindon on March 18th 1960 by
K.W.C. Grand, Esq.
Member of the British Transport Commission'.

I was there when the naming ceremony took place in the works.

The copper-capped double chimney can be seen on the top of the boiler. Next image LinkExternal link
