Art Deco, former Electricity Showrooms, Trinity Street, Dorchester
This appears to be a former art deco fire station and is now a bar and club, its former use marked in the circular plaque. However, according to Geoffrey Pritchard:
"The photo is of the former electricity showrooms, which have been demolished in the last couple of years. I think they were built when Dorchester Borough Council ran the electricity undertaking before nationalisation. When the premises were sold for some reason the new owner decided to rename it the Old Fire Station. The fire station was next door where the bus shelter is on the right side of the photo. It was built, I think in the late 1930s and served until a new station was built in 1985 in Bridport Road (itself now replaced).
"The building to the left was a garage, built in the 1950s for Lee Motors, a Bournemouth firm, which was the Vauxhall distributor for Dorset. Like many firms in the motor business it went out of business probably in the 1970s and after some other occupant it was occupied by Iceland."
An image on Google StreetView dated July 2018 shows that the circular plaque has been retained in a wall facing the street.
