Jarlshof, Shetland
The earliest settlement here dates back to the Bronze Age and early Iron Ages. The biggest part of Jarlshof is covered by a Viking settlement which was occupied from the 9-13th centuries, when the buildings were buried in sand and hidden until a storm in 1905 uncovered the bronze age buildings. To the east of the Viking settlement is a medieval farm. There are also ruins of a 16th/early 17th century laird's house and a prehistoric broch.
