Geograph - photograph every grid square

This section of a signposted route, "The Shore Circular Path", follows the course of NS3875 : Havoc Road.

A crag is located to the right of the furthest part of the road visible in the photograph; it has a chapel on top (NS3875 : Notre Dame Roman Catholic Chapel, which appears here as a large building, just right of centre, that is obscured by trees). At the base of the same crag is the entrance to Dumbarton Cave; see: NS3875 : Havoc Hole.

Havock, the farmstead which gave the area its name (the spelling has changed over the years) was located at the near edge of the grassy area that can be seen on the right, in the present photograph. As the photo suggests, there is little sign of it now. The site appears on the first-edition OS map (c.1862), but disappears from maps after the 1950s.
