Jarlshof
Jarlshof is a fascinating excavated site on the very southern tip of the Shetland Islands near Sumburgh Head.
The site encompasses buildings from most of the ancient historical periods. Amazingly these have been kept separate such that they start with neolithic dwellings on the eastern side of the site and spiral around in a clockwise fashion through Bronze Age, early and late Iron Age, 2nd & 3rd century wheelhouses, Viking, Mediaeval and finally the C16th Laird's House. This represents a truly remarkable 4000 years of history on one site.
