Sky blue fountain
The Belgrade fountain, at the junction of Upper Well Street and Corporation Street, dyed blue in celebration of Coventry City FC (the Sky Blues) reaching the FA Cup Final for the first (and so far, only) time. They went on to beat Spurs in the final. Should they ever repeat the feat, another fountain will have to be found as this one was demolished in 2008. The fountain was part of the 1950s redelevopments and was originally a single spout. In the 1980s the shapes seen here were added to the pool and, although they looked odd, gave a gentle pulsing action to the water flowing over. At present the Belgrade theatre area is being redeveloped.

In the background are the 1950s-built offices (L.A. Culliford & Partners 1956-60)of the local Coventry Evening Telegraph newspaper and further along, the Axa building under construction.

Update 2013: The Coventry Telegraph has moved to smaller premises in Leicester Row ( SP3379 : Offices on Leicester Row ) and the Sky Blues are also operating under reduced circumstances.
