Frost on the Union Chain Bridge
The Union Chain Bridge lies on a minor road between Paxton (in Scotland) and Horncliffe (in England). It is an important route for cyclists crossing the Border as it avoids heavy traffic and carries both route 1 of the National Cycle Network (originally conceived as the Inverness and Dover route, now part of the North Sea Cycle Route Archive Link
) and route 68 (Archive Link
). It is also a bit of a ratrun for motorists, but is currently closed due to a landslide on the English side; this explains why there are so few vehicle tracks in the frost. The road beyond the bridge is unlikely to be re-opened for some considerable length of time.
