The Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas - crypt
The crypt was originally built as a charnel house when the north transept was erected in the 14th C. It fell out of use and was eventually forgotten. It was rediscovered in 1824 and the bones removed and reburied. It was adapted to its current use as a chapel in 1932. {Source: Guide to The Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, Newcastle upon Tyne.}
