The Packhorse Bridge, Stokesley
The Packhorse Bridge, Stokesley
Many old, narrow bridges are called [not always correctly] 'packhorse bridges', this being one just off the Market Place in Stokesley. It dates from the 17th century and was once the main route into town from the south, although it is hardly wide enough to accommodate anything broader than a very small cart.
