In 2003, when this photo was taken, the abandoned fishing boat, 'Brekaer', still had its superstructure intact. This had gone by 2006 NZ1964 : Blaydon Road Bridge.
Vandalism, tides and weather have taken toll of its blue and red paint and now, in the right hands, it provides a fine photographic subject of beautiful decay

Wreck of the 'Brekaer'

In 2003, the abandoned fishing boat, 'Brekaer', moored on the north bank of the River Tyne between Blaydon Bridge and Lemington Bridge still had its superstructure intact. This had gone by 2006 NZ1964 : Blaydon Road Bridge

A photo on Flickr records that the River Tyne debris removal barge, Clearwater, retrieved the engine from the wreck on 19th May 2012.

There are some excellent photos by Steve Elwood on SkyscraperCity taken on 14 August 2014. However, its identification as the Scottish fishing boat, KAREN OBBEKAER BCK 134, is unlikely, as the photo shown of it in operation was taken in 2008.

Blaydon Road Bridge

1987-90 bridge designed by Bullen & Partners for the Newcastle Western Bypass. Built by Edmund Nuttall Ltd. It is a twin, five-span, pre-stressed, post-tensioned, concrete box structure, 330m long. It was constructed using the balanced cantilever method with paired elliptical-section reinforced concrete piers. There is a 17-span approach viaduct on the south side.

The bridge is one of the busiest on the Tyne and is one of only two over which the national speed limit of seventy miles per hour is operable.
