In this photo, the area to the left of the fence is Nobleston Wood; there are some clearings here, but the trees, especially on the higher slopes of Pappert Hill, are mostly coniferous.

To the right of the fence is Pappert Well Community Woodlands: NS4079 : Pappert Well Community Woodlands. Though this area was also heavily wooded until about 2000, at the time of writing it had become mostly open moorland.

From this point on the eastern side of the fence, it is fairly easy to join some other footpaths leading to Pappert Hill and Pappert Well: NS4180 : Footpath to Pappert Well and NS4180 : Footpath from Pappert Hill. These footpaths are located only 500 metres or so to the north of this point, and a line of orange markers on poles (showing the course of a gas pipeline) makes for an easily-followed route. Alternatively, a footpath from this gate leads directly to Pappert Hill.
