NG4032 : Old road, new road

taken 12 years ago, near to Drynoch, Highland, Great Britain

Old road, new road
Old road, new road
A fragment of the old A863 is visible to the left, while the modern highway leads straight ahead.
This is looking north towards Struan and Dunvegan.
Quite why the builders of the new road chose to blast through the crag at the top of this hill rather than follow the line of the old road, which goes round the crag, is unclear.
