Church Road, Yardley in 1952
Over forty years after absorption into the city of Birmingham, the ancient centre of Yardley retains its rural tranquility in this view looking towards SP1386 : St Edburgha's church and the Trust School. Note the pre-Worboys "road narrows" warning sign at the left, hardly necessary in view of the absence of traffic.
Pre-Worboys road signs

These are known as pre-Worboys signs because in 1965 new signs were introduced acting on the recommendations of the Worboys Committee which had been tasked with reviewing the UK's road signage. The new designs have mostly remained in current use with only minor changes.
