This is the site of St Helen's Well. The well and the Chapel of St Ellen nearby LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) were once considered as a holy place on a pilgrims' route from Rothbury. The Chapel foundations are now lost in the forest and the well is contained in a brick-built tank set into the ground with a wooden hut over it LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
