17th century Manor House at Belsay Castle
17th century Manor House at Belsay Castle
Belsay Castle is a dramatic 14th century fortified building dating from more troublesome times in the Borders LinkExternal link. When peace descended on the area in the 17th century the Middleton family moved out of the castle into a more modern Manor House adjoining. The Castle and Manor House were both abandoned in the early 19th century with the construction of Belsay Hall LinkExternal link nearby.
