North front, Cragside
The north front of Cragside, Northumberland, built for William Armstrong in 1863. The house was, when first built, one of the most advanced homes in the world. It was the first house to be powered by hydroelectricity and the first to be lit by the electric light bulb, invented by Armstrong's good friend, Joseph Swan.
