Taxi rank sign, Belfast
Taxi rank sign, Belfast
This sign is at the rank in Bridge Street and denotes the “blacks taxis” which ply, on fixed routes (similar to buses), in north Belfast and Newtownabbey – specifically Monkstown and the Doagh Road. Other parts of west and north Belfast have similar services.

The term “black taxi” is an unofficial one used to distinguish such vehicles from the standard “hackney carriage”.
