Force Falls, River Kent
Force Falls, River Kent
A descent of the River Kent from Kendal culminates in this intimidating but usually straightforward drop. By the time you see the horizon line and have second thoughts, you are committed - even landing on the rocks in the middle (which we've since learned is frowned upon) to inspect the line offers no escape other than to run the falls. However, the aerated water at the bottom is not recirculating, and whilst it may swallow you up (as it is about to do to Ann Jones in the photo) it does tend to spit you out again, usually the right way up.
