Grave of Colonel Robert A. Smith
For years this grave in the Dean cemetery Edinburgh has intrigued me since it has a Confederate flag stuck in the ground which is regularly replaced but the stone inscription was unreadable. Recently a slab placed there explains:-
"Colonel Robert A. Smith of the 10th Mississippi regiment Confederate State Army, a native of Edinburgh who fell mortally wounded at the Battle of Mumfordsville, Kentucky, Sept.14th 1862 whilst gallantly leading in the charge of Fort Craig. Aged 26." This was erected by Sons of Confederate Veterans, camp no.33
