Nappers Mite Alms Houses
Nappers Mite Alms Houses
The Napper or Napier Mite Alms Houses in Dorchester's South Street were established by Sir Robert Napiers will in 1615 for the accommodation of ten poor men. They were endowed them with property elsewhere to fund them. It was one of the oldest buildings in Dorchester and was established soon after the great fire of Dorchester in 1613. Religious people stated the fire was a scourge sent from God to chastise the uncharitable population.
