NZ0311 : Stone bridge at Thwaite

taken 16 years ago, near to Scargill, County Durham, England

Stone bridge at Thwaite
Stone bridge at Thwaite
A bridleway runs from the hamlet of Thwaite to its tiny chapel in a field, crossing a small tributary to Thwaite Beck by this stone bridge. A modern walkers' footpath would hardly need a bridge as the tiny stream is but a step across, but it has steep banks, so the bridge would make it a lot easier on horseback or dressed for church.
