Adelaide Street, Shildon
The photographer was drawn to this street as it was the home of his g.g.grandfather. He was an engine-driver in 1836 LinkExternal link and an employee of the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company under the supervision of Timothy Hackworth. This terrace shares its backyards with three other rows which form a rectangular enclosure with access through a single gate. The southern corner is occupied by the Masons' Arms from where the S&DR was officially opened in 1825.
