Prepare to engage!

On 17th April 2009 busway demonstration trips were arranged, with tickets allocated by ballot - in which your photographer was lucky to be successful. The trips boarded at Milton Park & Ride and ran on the guided section from Cambridge Regional College to Park Lane, Histon.

Here a bus is seen proceeding at dead slow to engage with the guideway at the Regional College junction. The guide rail funnel is asymmetric, the idea being to cleave to the off-side rail first. One of the guide sensor wheels can just be seen on the near corner of the bus.

Cambridgeshire Guided Busway :: TL4555

Funding for the 'Guided Busway' was first applied for in July 2002. Cambridgeshire was awarded £92.5 million. By 2009 the estimated cost was put at £116.27million, in 2010 this estimate had risen to £161.0 million. By the end of 2010 the overall cost of this much delayed project was put at £180+ million.
