Interesting to note the changing state of the foreshore here. I can vaguely remember this being sand after a fashion about 10-15 years ago (when I was nobbut a nipper). Then in the late 90s the local paper was full of concern about colonisation by spartina grass, which seems to be visible in this shot

SD4077 : Grange over 'Sands', Cumbria - June 2004 it's now turning into good-quality saltmarsh. The reverse process is happening across the Kent estuary in Silverdale, where the foreshore is being eroded away due to the shifting course of the Kent channel.
