Wood anemone with seven tepals
Wood anemone with seven tepals
Many flowers have coloured petals, and underneath them sepals which are often green. For example see NX0473 : Tormentil (Potentilla erecta), a potentilla with yellow petals and green sepals, also NX2947 : Sea Campion, bladder campion where the sepals form a bladder-like tube. If petals and sepals are not clearly differentiated, they are termed "tepals". This is the case on the wood anemone (anemone nemorosa), both petals and sepals are white and look the same, six or seven tepals in total.
