H2501 : Crannog on Lough Gulladoo

taken 17 years ago, 3 km from Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, Ireland

Crannog on Lough Gulladoo
Crannog on Lough Gulladoo
The Irish lakeland of County Cavan and adjoining areas is dotted with innumerable small loughs nestling between the drumlins. Lough Gulladoo, one of the larger loughs, actually lies within County Leitrim. The trees in the water - almost at the northernmost point of the lough - mark the site of a crannog, or early lake settlement, which are very numerous throughout the lake country.
