Looking like a model of a bacteriophage, this is one of the radar units that detect rainfall. Those false colour rainfall maps we got before the BBC dumbed down the weather forecast were derived from stations like this, situated on the summit of Corse Hill.

Since this was posted, the quality of weather forecast presentation on the BBC, at least in Scotland, has improved considerably. The radar shown here has been removed as the hill now hosts a wind farm. Today the weather radar is on Holehead in the Campsies. NS6182 : Weather radar, Holehead
